From warning light to next step.

  1. Plug in. Connect a compatible Bluetooth OBD-II adapter to your car's diagnostic port, then pair it with ChatOBD on your iPhone.

  2. Your car. Health, stored codes, and open recalls for the car you drive, together on one card.

  3. The scan. When a warning light comes on, scan for trouble codes and see what each one means and how closely to look at it.

  4. The question. Ask whether it's safe to keep driving, by voice or text, and follow up without starting over.

  5. Show it. Add a dashboard photo or record the sound of a rough idle, details a scan can't capture.

  6. The drive. After you park, review the trip: the route, moving time, and a driver score with what affected it.

Drive summary with the route, a driver score of 86, one hard-braking event, and 11 miles driven
  7. Before the shop. Return to past scans, drives, and conversations, and know what to ask about a repair quote.

You 2017 Honda Civic

My check engine light just came on. Is it safe to keep driving?

ChatOBD

Flashing? Stop driving.

Pull over safely and switch off the engine. If the light is steady, scan the code to find out what needs attention.

You 2015 Ford F-150

What does P0420 actually mean, and how urgent is it?

ChatOBD

Check the cause before replacing parts.

P0420 flags an emissions issue. Book a diagnosis before paying for a new catalytic converter.

You 2019 Volkswagen Tiguan

The shop quoted me $900 for a misfire. Is that reasonable?

ChatOBD

Ask what the $900 covers.

Get an itemized quote with the diagnosed fault, parts, and labor. A misfire code alone doesn’t explain the price.

You 2014 BMW 328i

Why is my coolant temperature climbing in traffic?

ChatOBD

Start with the coolant and fan.

Have both checked. If you see an overheating warning, pull over safely and switch off the engine.

Show it. Describe it. Ask about it.

Good questions.

How does ChatOBD use my data?

You can manage permissions and optional product analytics in Settings. Our privacy policy explains the details and deletion options. Read the privacy policy.

Do I need extra hardware?

We recommend a compatible iPhone Bluetooth OBD-II adapter so ChatOBD can read data directly from your car. Questions, photos, and recordings still work without one.

Which cars are supported?

Your car needs an OBD-II port for a direct connection. Available trouble codes and sensor readings vary by vehicle and adapter.
